We are a Eucharistic Community standing on the shoulders of German settlers who came to Avon over 160 years ago. Under the patronage of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we are striving to build God’s Kingdom in our world today through lives of prayer and service.
German settlers first came to the Avon area around 1833. By 1841 several German families had settled in the French Creek area and began worshiping regularly in the wagon shop and home of Jacob Conrad. They bought property and built their first church in 1848. With community continuing to grow, ground was broken for a new church in 1892. The present church was completed in 1893.
The church was initially called 'Marienkirche' (Mary's Church). It was officially named St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception in 1850 in honor of the declaration by the First Council of Baltimore that Mary of the Immaculate Conception would be the patroness of the United States.
